SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability..our approach

Across the farm and The Room, sustainability is central to our thinking. Its not just the obvious things such as recycling and avoiding single use plastics. It has to be more.

On the farm we don't use hostile pesticides which damage bees and wasps and other natural predators such as ladybirds. Our sprays are all bio friendly and are designed to prevent disease. Most are usually based upon soap. We recycle water so that any so called 'waste' water is used by crops growing in the ground.

Our packaging is either biodegradable or, if it is plastic, our customer has agreed to return to us for reuse.

We have solar power helping to power our cold store and when it's installed, our heating systems for the greenhouses will be a combination of biomass and air source heat pumps. Most of our waste is added to the compost. And this compost goes back in to the crops to stimulate growth and to improve yields.

Are we perfect, of course not. We have started this way of growing and doing things, but, inevitably there is always room for improvement.
