Our Produce

We use different methods of growing. As a grower mentor once commented, grow whatever is best for the location and the weather. It is a simple but well judged rule.

Nutbourne Place Farm is on a south facing slope and has other gradients within the land. We use two different growing methods...

For some crops such as raspberries and asparagus, we grow in the ground . As well as the water from the soil, we recycle water used elsewhere (eg. for the hydroponics) back on to these crops. This helps to feed the crop and to improve yields and the quality of the fruit. Within the poly tunnels and greenhouse we grow hydroponically. This is a really exciting method of growing where the root is kept out of the soil and is fed with nutrient water. Yields are considerably greater than can ever be achieved with conventional growing and using far less land. It is, however, capital intensive. The greenhouse and poly tunnels are semi managed to try to control the climate.

All green waste is wherever possible recycled in to the compost which then goes back on to the crops. We take in other green waste and horse manure from local growers and horse owners.
